She is exemplary. An emblematic vision of innovation taken to the extreme, pushing the boundaries beyond the commonplace. And hence, inimitable. An otherworldly symbol of an aesthetic revolution that has been elegantly put together and achieved by moulding ideas and modelling materials into the stuff of dreams. An unmistakeable expression of innate class, and a tangible, magical revelation.
Firouzeh is a sign that denotes a specific conceptual statement. Contemporaneously and in parallel, Firouzeh is a shape that exemplifies a rigorous, concrete demonstration. It’s hard to think of a better showcase for the principles and reasoning behind an exclusive, unique ethos – that of the Italian shipyard ISA (International Shipyards Ancona). That ethos draws heavily on a distinctive artistic harmony and is guided by special, advanced technologies. Firouzeh is the sixth unit from the multiple award-winning ISA 120 series.
She was launched last year after the two sister ships that preceded her, Gemini and Illusion, respectively the fourth and fifth units from the ISA 120 series that were launched in the same year. For the ISA yard the year was an eventful one, full of happy events and “christenings”, as well as the satisfaction of winning international recognition. Indeed, in Autumn 2007 Aquamarina 157’, the seventh unit in the ISA 470 series, was one of the stars of the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show in Monte Carlo.
ISA’s year of glory conveniently came hot on the heels of an industrious 2006, at the end of which the British private equity fund YIG closed a deal obtaining control of the yard. YIG (Yachting Investors Group), is a strong, enterprising high-profile financial operator in the industrial segment of the high-end nautical sector.
Its experts identified ISA as being a shipyard with excellent brand image, which is decidedly interesting for its considerable strategic market potential, as well as for the systems and technology it possesses. The executive management team immediately took some major, far-sighted decisions.
It made the right choices when it came to planning the yard’s development, and has paved the way for a solid growth plan. This growth is to take place through the organisation of the yard’s structure and production activities, the fundamental prerequisite for bringing the expansion policy to fruition. This may also be achieved through the direct acquisition of other worthwhile shipyards. This is why the ISA yard has quickly reached a considerable enlargement of its two existing production lines, i.e., the composite and metal lines.
It has also developed and presented numerous new models, which also feature a considerable increase in terms of size.
This applies particularly to the yard’s displacing motor-yachts, made with steel hulls and aluminium superstructures: from the innovative, successful ISA 470 series, which has made the yard famous the world over, to the next sea-goddess IS 560’, which is so beautiful and charming as to seduce any kind of client. New ideas abound, and
new contracts are coming in thick and fast. No sooner had the yard started designing
and building the new 60-metre flagship, the dynamic, imposing ISA 600, than it announced the majestic, even more aggressive and dynamic ISA 630.
However, the yard’s ambitious plans for expansion still leave room for ongoing work on its range of high-speed, planing motoryachts made with hull and superstructure in fibreglass composite. The forthcoming ISA 140 series is set to appear in 2008, and will be the logical sequel to the ISA 120 series formula.
The main features and data.
The vessels in the ISA 120 series are flying bridge motoryachts with an inner raised wheelhouse located on the middle half deck, for better visibility during sailing. The total length is almost 36 and a half metres; waterline length is 30 metres, while the overall beam is almost seven and a half metres; draught when loaded is around one and a half metres.
The vessels’ displacement varies according to how they are outfitted and what on-board equipment they have. Firouzeh’s displacement half loaded is 153 tons and full displacement is 165 tons. All vessels have fuel tanks with 22-thousand-litre capacity, while their water tanks can hold four thousand litres. Like the other units in the ISA 120 series, Firouzeh was built to Maritime and Coastguard Agency standards, and in compliance with the regulations of the Italian Naval Register.
The yacht therefore fulfils the requirements for the MCA Short Range Yacht classification as well as the RINA Maltese Cross 100 – A – 1.1 Y NAV – A. The yacht is made from advanced fibreglass composite, employed using an advanced technique for building the hull and superstructure.
The yachts in the ISA 120 series have been designed specifically to be high-performing. In fact, the hulls were specially designed by the yard’s engineers with a fast planing bottom with a variable output angle at the stern.
Furthermore, the propulsion system consists of three high-efficiency waterjets from Rolls Royce Kamewa: two adjustable, guidable 71 S II waterjets on the side for thrust and directional manoeuvres, while the central waterjet, the 56 B II model, is only used as a power booster for thrust. In addition to making efficient use of all the power of the engines, the waterjet propulsion system makes for extreme agility during cruising, good handling, and the possibility of an immediate stop in case of emergency, while it can also sail and moor even in shallow waters.
The yacht’s maximum draught is limited to the height of the hull only, due to the lack of the vertical height of the rudder paddles and the position of the waterjets, which are neatly contained within the lower edge of the hull.
