Light 80 Metres

by Fincantieri Yachts with Nauta Yachts

We are pleased to present Light, a project at the highest level of large-scale yachting. This design is offered by Fincantieri Yachts, the Italian heavy shipbuilding giant with more than two centuries of technical experience in the naval sector. This immense wealth of know-how has been accumulated over time with the building of numerous types of ships, including high-tech vessels such as navy ships and cruise ships. Fincantieri’s Yachts Division now benefits from this specialist knowledge and these high-level skills, which were put to use in the development of the design for Light, in close collaboration with Italian yacht design firm Nauta Yachts. Thanks to this concentrated excellence in applications and specialisations, a true jewel in the crown of high-tech Italian-made products, Light is not only a concept design uniquely focused on conveying the overall idea proposed to the client, but also – or rather instead – a design in which every single component is fully developed. In addition to the yacht’s aesthetic concept, Fincantieri Yachts studied the design in depth, fine-tuning the technical side flawlessly with picture-perfect engineering and systems as well as painstaking tank testing. This was carried out in the Netherlands at MARIN, the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands, where the model underwent simulations including force 7 wind conditions at sea: all the most demanding tests were passed with flying colours thanks to the hull’s lines and bulbous bow, which all demonstrated excellent performance in terms of both speed and seakeeping. As a result of this long, complex preliminary process, Light is essentially ready to move directly to the construction phase in the shipyard. This could occur immediately after signature of a contract, meaning that an owner would get the benefit of a favourably reduced construction timescale with delivery of the mega yacht as much as two years earlier than in the case of normal procedures for an equivalent order for a similar-sized vessel. Nevertheless, Light offers extensive opportunities for modification to the interior layout in order to fully meet the owner’s needs and requirements. Most importantly, it also allows a completely exclusive interior design to be created so as to flawlessly fulfil any and all wishes for individual customisation. On any level and from any point of view, Light proves to be a truly special vessel, successfully placing herself beyond current standards on the international market. One example is her elegant exterior design, which is decidedly modern but expressly inspired by the classic, timeless style of the luxurious transatlantic liners that grace the billboards of major shipping lines. With her unmistakable profile, Light recalls the charm of that timeless era through a contemporary reinterpretation that revisits the traditional motifs of naval art and the eternal spirit of those legendary giants of the sea. As a result, Light’s look is an expressive synthesis of the intrinsic concept of a ship in the pure sense of the word, aesthetically transfigured and updated to fit the theme of a large yacht. The yacht has a high, almost vertical prow, a hull with soaring sides and a superstructure concentrated amidships. The whole ensemble is a virtuoso example of complete harmony of forms and flawless balance of volumes, generating an intense dialogue between solid and empty sections. The latter prevail, lightening the visual appearance of the yacht and emphasising the main feature of the design: transparency between the exterior and interior, which effectively translates into spaces full of light and a rewarding, matchless panoramic view. On the other hand, the entire design is based on giving priority to the relationship between passengers and the surrounding environment. This begins with the open-air spaces, which are extraordinarily large and numerous: the yacht has a surface area of more than 640 m2 across all the exterior decks. On the bridge deck, the area intended for use as a helipad or sunbathing area covers a full 150 m2. The owner’s private deck offers two terraces: one 130 m2 terrace to aft with a bar and lounge for socialising with guests and one 140 m2 terrace forward with a completely private sunbathing area and swimming pool that can also be made available to guests if needed. The main deck alone offers an open space to aft covering 220 m2: this huge, versatile terrace is fitted out as a reception space with a living area and an alfresco dining area, specifically intended as the perfect location for cocktail parties and receptions on board. Two side staircases go down to the beach club area on the lower deck, with its bar and lounge, alongside a wellness spa with a gym, massage room, sauna and hammam.
However, the expansive concept of the Light design, which maximises the visual and light connection between the exterior and the interior, finds its fullest expression in the exceptional size of the windows: more than 200 m2 of glass to be installed surrounding an area of 770 m2 of habitable space distributed throughout the interior decks. The theme of light and transparency is therefore undoubtedly a constant, inescapable thread running through the fittings and interiors on the magnificent mega yacht, from the panoramic owner’s suite and the six guest staterooms to the huge main saloon with its enormous windows and the spectacular spiral staircase in the centre of the vessel. This last is illuminated with scattered light from a skylight and is accompanied by a stunning glass-panelled lift that links Light’s four decks, from the lobby that provides an entrance when boarding from a tender to the platform used when arriving by helicopter.
