Perini 60 M Series

by Perini Navi with Ron Holland

We have not yet heard the last of the sensational rumours that have accompanied this year’s launch of Sybaris, the first hull to be built in the Perini Navi 70 M Series. This ketch-rigged sailing yacht, 70 metres in length, whose design was presented in issue 35 of Yacht Première, is based on naval architecture developed by the Perini Navi Team in association with Philippe Briand and with interior design by PH Design. But at the same time, it certainly could not go unremarked that the third and fourth hulls of the Perini Navi 60 M Series, based on naval architecture developed by the Perini Navi Team in association with Ron Holland, are currently in the advanced phases of construction. This successful series of vessels by the Italian shipyard had its triumphant debut in 2013 with the delivery of the first hull, Seahawk, a 60-metre ketch-rigged sailing yacht featuring interior design by Christian Liaigre. The new series then continued on the same course in 2015 with the delivery of the second hull, Perseus^3, a sloop-rigged sailing yacht with a length of 60 metres and interior design created in-house by the Perini Navi Team. A full portrait of this vessel was published in issue 37 of Yacht Première. Thanks to the huge success of these first two vessels in the Perini Navi 60 M Sailing Yacht Series, next year and the year after will see the third and fourth hulls of the series take to the water. Both of these are 60-metre ketch-rigged sailing yachts, and both have a gross tonnage value below 500 GT. The construction of each new yacht – entirely in light aluminium alloy – and completion of the fittings will ultimately take 28 months in total, from the start of the work through to final delivery. However, until this major event occurs, the third hull of the Perini Navi 60 M Sailing Yacht Series will continue to be known as Hull C.2232, while the fourth hull of the series remains known as Hull C.2239. In addition to the rigging type, the two vessels also share other innovative technical characteristics that further improve the navigation concept and piloting control, all in accordance with the traditional philosophy adopted by the Italian shipyard in its approach to technology in the world of large blue water sailing vessels. A totally re-designed and re-engineered proprietary Perini Navi sail handling system has brought remarkable innovations in terms of both winch and furler design for the new yachts in the Perini Navi 60 M Series. The new generation of captive winches and flush deck furlers deliver superior power and speed through state-of-the-art sail controls that are all devised and developed in full by the Perini Navi in-house team. These new faster and more powerful Perini Navi captive reel winches and furlers provide an overall upgrade in performance with packages that require less power and fit in more compact housings. When under way, the vessel’s next-generation Perini Navi sail handling system will allow even faster use of the signature Perini Navi one‐handed control of the full sail plan via the sails’ respective furlers. In terms of the basic layout, the two vessels also have the same amount of available surface area for both social spaces and private accommodation. They feature a total of around 450 m² / 4,800 square feet, subdivided into nearly 300 m² / 3,200 square feet of interior space, including the salon area and the accommodation area, and a further 150 m² / 1,600 square feet of exterior space for the flybridge, aft cockpit, forward cockpit, aft deck and fore deck. In addition to these areas for the owner and guests, there is a further allocation of over 100 m² / 1,200 square feet of space for the crew areas and service areas. While the two vessels share all these features, there are also one or two differing elements, giving them their own individual character. The third hull of the Perini Navi 60 M Sailing Yacht Series, Hull C.2232, has an interior design by Dante Benini, while the current construction stage of the fourth hull in the series, Hull C.2239, allows for complete customisation of the interior design and the accommodation layout. As a result, the new Perini Navi 60 M Hull C.2239 represents a sizeable opportunity, better described as unique than rare, and it is currently still available on the luxury sailing yacht market for an owner who

does not want to wait too long for their vessel.
