by Fincantieri Yachts with Horacio Bozzo Design

At the final prestigious international yachting event of last year, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Fincantieri Yachts presented the exclusive Private Bay, its newest concept project to take the stage. A scale model of the yacht was on display at the Italian shipyard’s stand, showing off its elegant profile with a sharply raked bow and its towering antenna mast, which will make it instantly recognisable at sea even from substantial distances. This is also the case in part thanks to its impressive dimensions, with a length of over 120 metres, a beam of nearly 18 metres and an overall gross tonnage of approximately 5,400 GT, not to mention noteworthy performance with a top speed of over 18 knots and an autonomy range in excess of 5,500 nautical miles. This high-tech project with its stunning aesthetic was designed to accommodate 18 passengers on board between the owner and guests as well as 31 staff members and crew. The project is the work of Fincantieri Yachts in association with the highly regarded Horacio Bozzo Design, the design firm responsible for devising this innovative yacht concept especially for the Italian shipbuilder. “Fincantieri Yachts’ expertise brings prestige and quality to this fresh concept of a yacht, setting the basis for a stimulating collaboration,” emphasised Horacio Bozzo when Private Bay was presented at FLIBS 2016, where he defined the underlying philosophy of the project as follows: “I am convinced that anyone who has a strong personality also wants to follow this instinct at sea and live it in their own way. Private Bay is a different vision of a mega yacht conceived for living close to the sea, the main protagonist, while enjoying an authentic experience”.

This ‘different vision’ is duly reflected in the unusual look of the yacht, compared with solutions that are found more and more often on others, and can be described as ‘contemporary with class’ – breaking the mould but at the same time not breaking all the rules. As Horacio Bozzo concludes: “The exterior design is characterised by surfaces that intersect, creating light reflections, with terraces and balconies overlooking the sea. The flair of the bow adds class and the leaning mast gives a sporty accent for a one-of-a-kind motor yacht that affirms her identity with a contemporary elegance.” This identity is highly individual and clearly delineated, visible on Private Bay not only in her stylistic lines but most importantly in the numerous highlights that can be found throughout her six decks. These begin with the external spaces, such as the two large sunbathing areas, one on the fore deck and the other on the sun deck – these panoramic relaxation areas both feature hydromassage pools, bars, sunpads and sunbeds. The open beach club is unquestionably a particular highlight, however. This extraordinary, innovative concept has a total area of over 160 m2, equivalent to more than 1,700 square feet, and features a series of intriguing characteristics. These notably include the infinity pool with wet bar virtually at sea level, the lounge with openable side windows and an alfresco cinema, as well as the submersible stairs and platforms for gentle access to the water and a generous swimming platform for easy boarding of tenders and water toys. Higher up, there are verandas inspired by the embrace of a shell, where the protection provided by huge windows affords a seamless panoramic view of the sea uninterrupted by any visual obstacle. With her huge available volume, Private Bay will also be able to offer extremely spacious interiors with complete flexibility to meet any and all layout needs. When the Italian shipyard presented its new project, the example layout chosen featured a fitness and wellness area on the bridge deck, with the owner’s suite and a sky lounge on the upper deck and a salon living space on the main deck. Each space enjoys large panoramic windows on three sides to provide the maximum amount of natural light.
